Shell Canada is a Canadian corporation. Ownership of the company is divided between public shareholders (22 per cent) and Shell Investments Limited (78 per cent). Shell Investments Limited is owned by Shell Petroleum N.V., which, in turn, is owned by Royal Dutch Shell plc, an English company with headquarters in the Netherlands.
Shell and Joint Venture Owners' Athabasca Oil Sands Project consists of the Muskeg River Mine located 75 kilometres north of Fort McMurray, Alberta, the Scotford Upgrader located near Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta and supporting facilities.
Shell Canada (60%), Chevron Canada (a wholly owned subsidiary of Chevron Corporation) (20%) and Western Oil Sands (20%), are joint venture owners of the Athabasca Oil Sands Project.
